Have you ever seen a DataPower device used instead of the Sterling Perimeter Server to act as a proxy for Sterling File Gateway? Also, have you ever seen Sterling Direct Connect connect through a DataPower to a Sterling File Gateway?
Hi Steve, I haven’t see Sterling Perimeter Server acting as an proxy to Sterling File Gateway but definitely think Datapower will be a good fit. Yes have seen Sterling Connect Direct connection through Datapower as an File Gateway Proxy. The following integration is possible:
IBM Sterling Connect:Direct and IBM WMQ File Transfer Edition
IBM WMQ File Transfer Edition and IBM Datapower XB60
IBM WMQ File Transfer Edition and IBM Sterling File Gateway
IBM Sterling Connect:Direct and IBM Sterling File Gateway
I didn’t even know IBM announced a new appliance. Had a look at the specs and it overlaps allot with XI50.
The XG45 specifically is going to be popular in hybrid patterns where it is used in the DMZ to front appliances like XI52 or other products in the back-end, as its predecessor the XS40 has always been. But it’s not just a security proxy like the XS40 was, it has been enhanced to have more SOA/ESB capabilities so it can serve in the role as a ‘SOA adoption’ appliance in the DMZ or back-end. So we expect it to be popular with SMBs from that perspective.

Thys, What is the overlap between Datapower XI50 and the new XG45 with Sterling Secure proxy? and whats the difference if you know ?
